Can animals predict earthquakes?

Image from BBC Nature News.

Interesting observations of amphibians possibly sensing chemical changes in groundwater before an earthquake and anecdotal observations of strange behavior from the animal kingdom pre-earthquake found here.

I’m afraid you’ll have to link to this video and watch a commercial to see it, but it will be worth it.

This video absolutely astounds me every time I watch it. Turn the ants onto their sisters! It’s straight out of a horror movie. This clip is from the BBC’s Life in the Undergrowth, which is a series I highly recommend (The entire Life collection is fantastic-available on Netflix). In the extras, they mention that when they were filming, they were looking for the interactions between the moths and the ants, but had no clue about the wasp. It was during the filming of this video that this amazing behavior was discovered.
